The Four Beats of DrumFlower

Self expression through creativity
Sound as a healing vibration
Connection to the natural world
Spirituality - feeling the sacred aspect of life

The 4 beats of DrumFlower become a rhythm to use within our life. Life is not static, there are rhythms everywhere - our heartbeat, the cycle of the seasons, the moon & the rhythm of the tides, everywhere you look there are cycles & rhythms. Even life itself is a rhythm.

The World Needs Whole People

DrumFlower uses a variety of processes, techniques & tools to assist us in developing a  way of Being that opens us to an authentic life, true to ourselves. It is possible to be in connection with our true self, in connection with our inner power, to discover and bring home again the missing parts of our self, to be clean and free of other influences or energies we might pick up along the way that prevent us from being our true self. We can be Whole. And the world needs Whole people.

It's About Connection

The only way to do this is to work with it on a regular basis  - and it's a joy to do that. There are dark times, there are shadow times to get through - but it can be a joy because the way to do that is by getting connected. Connected to your self, connected to your passion, connected to your self expression, connected to the web of life, connected to the spirit that lives in all things. There's an energy in everything, that's why when we go into nature, listen and share our heart - it feels so good. The veils can drop, we can experience being part of our Earth family - with our kin - the trees, animals and all species. We can experience life with them - and realize we're part of this great web of life on Earth. It's incredibly soothing, incredibly powerful, incredibly uplifting, incredibly healing.

History

DrumFlower was visioned into creation by Lesley Tao Mowat. She applied the creative process learned back in art school to creating a business which is the full bloom of her life experiences. DrumFlower is a synthesis of what she has learned from her EarthWalk of deep adventures, music and art, spiritual journey, shamanic initiation and life threatening illness. It is what she has learned from many educational programs, trainings and work spanning over three decades. DrumFlower is what she brings back from her own 'wounded healer' journey.

This is important for you to know for this reason:
Jack Kornfield said it well in the introduction to "The Ethics of Caring - Honoring the Web of Life in Our Professional Healing Relationships" by Kylea Taylor.
"… every minister, healer, therapist, bodyworker, and shaman who ventures into the vast territory of the psyche can only offer the light of consciousness that they have encountered and made their own. Their own grief and personal history, their true passion and spiritual nature, their understanding of the difficult task of opening in themselves is their gift."

Lesley has known about the power of playing music since the age of 8 when she began piano lessons. Over the years this music making expanded to guitar, then hand drums, percussion and anything that makes a great sound! Her love and gratitude for music making continues to this day. Lesley has a passion for nurturing in others this experience of playing music and 'being in sound' - facilitating drum/percussion circles, shamanic drumming circles, music improvisation gatherings.

Lesley is a Spiritual Creative. Her background: She was co-founder / creative director of a band named Square Roots that played professionally for many years in the 1980s and 1990s. She has a BFA, Photography (UArts) and MFA, Computer Art (SVA). She taught digital media at University of the Arts from 1995 - 2004 and worked with design firms creating websites during the years 1995 - 2006.

Lesley has been a shamanic healing practitioner and teacher since 1998 with extensive training in both. She trained with Michael Harner and The Foundation for Shamanic Studies from 1996 - 2002, including their 3 Year Advanced Training. Lesley also trained with Sandra Ingerman in Shamanism and teaching Shamanism from 1998 - 2012. She is part of Sandra Ingerman's alliance of shamanic teachers and practitioners. In 2004 she was ordained as an Interfaith Minister by The School of Sacred Ministries of Pebble Hill Interfaith Church after a two year training process. She has some training and experience as a Chaplin in hospital and hospice.

The use of drumming, singing and sound in Shamanism has been exciting and expanded Lesley's use of music and sound into the world of healing. She has done trainings with a variety of sound healers. Eventually this journey brought Lesley to the synthesis which is finding it's expression in DrumFlower.
